TECHNICAL Module

This week, interns are navigating through the TECHNICAL module - meaning "having special skills or knowledge about how something works". Here are three ways interns are learning to approach applications, practices, and techniques.

Use Your Expertise

To talk about a topic in ways that others see the value in learning about the topic, interns are encouraged to share their knowledge in ways that resonate with the listener and is useful to the listener.

Offer and Uncover

To use self-confidence to constructively address issues and offer solutions, interns are encouraged to trust their ability to analyze situations and vocalize their insights—to go beyond being an observer to sharing observations and being a driver of positive change.

Be Upfront

To stay open to feedback and willingly adapt their approach as necessary, interns are encouraged to be upfront about how much they know and can do to build trust and receive the support to grow and excel–even when dealing with complex or unfamiliar parts of their work.

SUPERVISOR SUPPORT STRATEGIES

  • Use your expertise to foster understanding and collaboration. Listen intently as your interns share their knowledge and technical skills. Help them tie their expertise to the direct and indirect ways it adds value to the overall objectives of the team and your organization.

  • Be confident in your knowledge and abilities. Encourage your interns to contribute through their knowledge and abilities. As they do, be prepared for when their expertise reveals issues with the current way of doing things. Ask the interns for their input on ways to address and solve the issues they uncover.

  • While your interns bring valuable skills, they're still learning complex things. Regularly check in on their progress and any roadblocks. This keeps you open to the unexpected and willing to adapt your supervisor approach when necessary.

  • At the beginning of each week,

    • Read the weekly email with strategies to help support interns as they work on the soft skill challenge. (Interns receive a text message and will choose one soft skill challenge to work on.)

    • SOFT SKILL CHALLENGE: Send an email message to interns, asking them to share their chosen soft skill challenge.

    During each week,

    • Answer questions and issues that arise for your intern. Be available to provide a listening ear and help to find solutions.

At the end of each week,

    • TRACK Record Log. You’ll receive an email reminder to collect your intern’s log entry for the week.

  • Send an email to info@careerlog.co.

  • Where are the sessions held?
Program lessons are digital—no login, no class time.

    • Soft skill challenges are delivered to interns via a weekly SMS/text message sent to your mobile phone. (Save 216-294-0444 in your contacts as “Careerlog”.)

    • Supervisor support strategies are delivered via a weekly email message sent to your inbox. (Save info@careerlog.co in your contacts as "Careerlog".)

This allows participants to complete the program while working.

Do the lessons involve tests or quizzes? How do I successfully complete the program?
Interns receive no tests or quizzes. To receive a certificate of completion, interns must complete a weekly TRACK Record Log entry.

    Are there program materials?
No. There are no program materials to download. A copy of the TRACK Record Log entries will be sent to interns and their supervisors.
