QUESTIONABLE Module
This week, interns are navigating through the QUESTIONABLE module - meaning "not certain of something". Here are three ways interns are learning to identify challenges, analyze data, and overcome obstacles.
Seeing Problems
Because obstacles are inevitable,, interns are encouraged to look out for themselves and their team by calling out any challenges, conflicts, and delays that they’re aware of.
Question The Way Things Are
Instead of accepting the way things are as the best they can be, interns are encouraged to be curious and ask questions about areas that can be improved - areas where the team spends too much time, takes up too much space, or produces mixed results.
Question Your Work
To get comfortable with mistakes and mishaps, interns are encouraged to regularly question their work, even when they believe it’s complete and accurate.
SUPERVISOR SUPPORT STRATEGIES
Because obstacles are inevitable, extend grace and understanding as challenges, conflicts, and delays arise. Seeing your team members head towards a problem is difficult to watch. As a task shows signs of derailing, proactively offer assistance and discuss the various ways to approach foreseeable and hidden obstacles.
The way things are is not the best they can be. Be prepared for team members to be curious and ask questions about areas that can be improved - areas where you spend too much time, take up too much space, or produce mixed results.
Help your team members learn from their mistakes and contribute better as professionals. Before you question team members' work, challenge them to regularly question their own work. Show them ways to double-check work for errors, missing information, and mistakes.
